ARE Celebrates Tom Reardon as Alumnus of the Year 2025

October 27, 2025

ARE was honored and delighted to welcome Distinguished Professor Thomas Reardon on Friday Oct. 24th as ARE Alumnus of the Year 2025. Professor Reardon presented "Rocking the Boat to Change the Debate: Identifying and Testing Conventional Wisdom on Agrifood Systems In Developing Regions" at the department's weekly Friday Seminar series.

Thomas Reardon is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics (AFRE) at Michigan State University and 1984 alumnus of UC Berkeley ARE.

Immediately following his seminar presentation, the department community gathered in the beautiful Giannini Hall entrance lobby to acknowledge and celebrate Professor Reardon's dedicated research focus on the links between international development and the agribusiness/food industry. The ARE department celebrated his successful academic and professional career, one which has embodied the spirit of the ARE department and brought pride to the institutions that are the Rausser College of Natural Resources and UC Berkeley. Congratulations Tom!
