ARE Alumnus Jon Proctor Wins 2020 AAEA Outstanding Dissertation Award

Jon's dissertation, co-chaired by ARE Profesosr Max Auffhammer and ARE Affiliated faculty member Sol Hsiang (Goldman School of Public Policy) is titled “The Value of Light: Crop Response to Optical Scattering and Generalizable Earth Observation.” Working at the intersection of data science, environmental science, and agricultural economics, his doctoral research addresses how humans affect the quantity, directionality and spectral distribution of sunlight, thereby affecting agricultural productivity. He currently holds a post-doc position at Harvard University's Data Science Institute.
