ARE faculty and alumni were recognized with several important awards at the recent annual conference of the American Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA) held in Washington, DC.
Professor David Zilberman was elected President of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA) at its 2018 annual meeting held in Washington, D.C. August 5th-August 7th, 2018.
Other ARE AAEA award recipients were Professor Brian Wright, awarded the Publication of Enduring Quality for his classic book with UC Davis Professor Jeffrey Williams, Storage and Commodity Markets; and Professor Gordon Rausser won the Outstanding Journal Article Award for the best publication in the flagship journal of the AAEA, the American Journal of Agricultural Economics.
In addition to the awards received by ARE faculty members, three of the five new Fellows of the AAEA were trained and received their PhDs from Berkeley ARE:
Jill McCluskey (1998), currently Distinguished Professor of Sustainability at Washington State University;
John Beghin (1988), Professor and Department Head, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, North Carolina State University; and
Marcel Fafchamps (1989), Satre Family Senior Fellow, Freeman Spogli Institute, Stanford University.
The department is also very pleased for ARE Professors Alain de Janvry, Elisabeth Sadoulet and David Zilberman, in each receiving the Honorary Life Membership Award from the International Association of Agricultural Economics (IAAE) during it's 30th annual meeting held in Vancouver, B.C. July 28th-August 2nd, 2018. The Honorary Life Membership Award is the highest honor accorded by the IAAE.
