Here is an excerpt from Carmen's nominating letter:
"We are very fortunate to have Carmen as our GSAO, and we would like to recognize her sustained, exceptional performance by nominating her for an Achievement Award. Carmen has a strong focus on service. She provides timely, excellent service to faculty, staff colleagues, and, of course, her students. Not only does she expertly execute her job duties, she is well-known for going above and beyond the call of duty. Her lunch hour is often spent with students, taking them out for lunch or coffee, or just a walk to listen and provide advice or comfort. Carmen frequently checks in with her students to make sure they are doing well - academically, professionally, physically, mentally, and emotionally. She takes students to their doctor's appointments when they do not have any other support. Carmen and her husband hold parties for them at their home to help them celebrate milestones, such as marriages. She cares deeply for her students.
...She is a valuable, respected, and reliable colleague. When asked to perform additional duties, she does so willingly, demonstrating her dependability and can-do attitude.
This year Carmen was the recipient of a campus Excellence in Advising Award, which recognizes exceptional performance and innovation in advising. This special recognition is evidence of her positive impact on our graduate program, department, and students. Carmen enriches our department culture with her humanity, care, positive attitude, hard work, and integrity. She truly loves her job and her students, and that is apparent to all who know her."
