ARE Professor David Zilberman publishes policy piece in Science

October 9, 2025

Joint with ARE Alumna Madhu Khanna, Bruno Basso, Jeff O’Hara, and Gal Hochman, the policy piece argues that support for aviation fuel and other biofuel programs should be conditioned on adoption of "climate-smart" practices, with compensation levels depending on assessed carbon sequestration.

The same group of authors also published a piece last year in the Nature journal Communications Earth & Environment that presents five pathways to transform our current agri-food system to a sustainable circular bioeconomy. They argue for an economic value-based lens to balance the desire for circularity with its costs, benefits, and distributional effects on society.
