Freshman Seminar: Environmental Economics and Policy 39

  • The class introduces the use of economics to solve problems of agriculture, development and the environment.
  • The class features faculty and students from Agriculture and Resource Economics that provide overview of their research areas.
  • Presentations address both methodological approaches as well as important policy issues.

Some of the issues covered in the course include:

  • The use of game theory to understand strategic choices in industry
  • Alternative solutions to climate change problems
  • The economics of water in California o What is sustainable development?
  • Contingent evaluation o Assessment of value of the environment
  • Future of agricultural policy
  • Globalization and its en and econ implications

Class Requirements

  • Attendance
  • Class Participation (Please donŐt sleep!)
  • A five-page policy paper covering one of the issues introduced in the class.
