Gordon Rausser is currently the Robert Gordon Sproul Distinguished Professor, University of California, Berkeley. He co-founded LECG, Inc., and the Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Policy Reform, and served as Director of the former (1989–2000) and President of the latter (1989–1996). He has taught economics and statistics at many prestigious universities and served as Dean of the College of Natural Resources at the University of California at Berkeley (1994–2000). While on leave from Berkeley, Dr. Rausser served as senior economist on the President’s Council of Economic Advisors in the late 1980s and subsequently as chief economist of the U.S. Agency for International Development from 1988 to 1990. He is a fellow of the American Agricultural Economics Association (1990), American Statistical Association (1991) and American Association for the Advancement of Science (1993). Over the course of his professional career, Dr. Rausser has been developed four new areas of research and has been one of the pioneers in nine other fundamental areas. As a result, he has received 16 national awards for original discoveries. Recently, his research has focused on market learning, the potential complementarities between environmental quality and economic growth, the economic impact of emerging technologies and policies that deter pollution, stigmatized asset values, bioprospecting, the critical role of intellectual property rights in industrial organization of the food industry, and general public science and technology policy. He has published more than 200 articles, books, and book chapters and has written more than 100 Commissioned Papers, Governmental Reports, and Working Papers. Dr. Rausser is a frequent commentator on national radio and television, an active advisor on public policy issues to business and political leaders throughout the country, is experienced in complex business litigation regarding economic and financial damage analysis, and has engaged in many entrepreneurial activities. He is one of few economists who has authored a number of patents, one on risk management and another on structured contracts for collateralized debt obligations.
