About the Development Research Center

Organizational Status: Governmental institute, founded in 1985.

Background/Scope: DRC is a comprehensive policy research and consulting institution directly under the State Council, the central government of the People's Republic of China. Since its establishment, the center has done a great deal of creative work in promoting the reform and openness of China and the establishment of a socialist market economic system. DRC has been actively involved in the policy-making processes of the central government, such as the formulation of the state five-year plans for national economic and social development and long-term development programs, and in the research and policy-making processes on the major reform and opening-up policies. It has also participated in and sponsored study of strategies and planning for regional development.

Areas of Research: Economic issues, industry policy, social issues, labor and human resource development, environment and natural resources, macroeconomics, development strategy and regional economy, rural economy, industrial economy, technology economy, foreign economic relations, social development, international cooperation.

Geographic Focus: Domestic, international.

Funding Sources: National government, contract research. Accepts contract research.

Staff: 160 ( 120 male, 40 female ), including 110 research and 50 administrative.
