Writing
It is crucial that you have a well written abstract and job market paper. Each great paper you read has been rewritten at least 20 times. Once you think you have a decent draft, swap abstracts and papers with a colleague. Feedback is essential. It helps to switch with someone who knows very little about what you are doing and whose specialty is quite different from yours, since your jobmarket paper and abstract will be read by faculty from many different fields.
Two excellent sources for improving your writing are:
McCloskey Deirdre.
2000. Economical Writing. Waveland Press. Paperback, 98pp. ISBN: 1577660633
McCloskey, Donald.
1985. Economical Writing. Economic Inquiry. Huntington Beach: Vol. 23,
Iss. 2; pg. 187, 36 pgs. (I have a copy in my office, which you are free to
borrow).
