Cal/OSHA Regulatory
Development
Advisory Committee
on Heat Stress Control
The Research and Standards Development Unit, California Department of Industrial Relations, convened an advisory committee in December 1999 to develop an industrial standard (regulation) that specifically would help prevent heat illness and injury in the workplace. A new standard would supplement existing rules and be applicable in but by no means limited to agriculture. The Advisory Committee on Heat Stress Regulatory Development is chaired by Robert Barish of Cal/OSHA. It includes representatives from businesses, labor unions, academia, and other government agencies. A second meeting was held in January 2000, a third in October 2000, a fourth in October 2001, and a fifth in February 2002. An initial working draft regulation was discussed at the third meeting, substantially revised for presentation at the fourth, and further revised for the fifth (Feb 2002). Drafts of the regulation and minutes of the advisory committee meetings are posted on this website as they become available. Click below to download pdf files or display html.
