
L. "Tim" Wallace

Dr. Tim Wallace, Cooperative Extension economist received his undergraduate degree with honors from Harvard University in 1949. After a six year stint as a self-employed rancher and logger, he obtained a M.S. from Oregon State University, and received a Ph.D. from Purdue. From 1955-1957, he served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nevada; 1957-1963, was Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor in the Agricultural Economics Department at Purdue University (Lafayette, Indiana). He has been an agricultural economist and cooperative extension specialist with the University of California at Berkeley, Cooperative Extension and the Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics since 1963. Research and extension activities include land use and water policy, national food and fiber policy rural development, and international trade.
He was twice chair of the Farm Foundation-sponsored National Public Issue Education Committee, and California's representative on the committee for more than 20 years. He recently received the Farm Foundation's newly created J.R. Hildreth Award for his lifetime contribution to public issues extension education.
Dr. Wallace served as senior economist (federal) for agriculture on the President's Council of Economic Advisors; was past director of the California State Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA); studied the land use in Britain, China, Japan, and Alaska; in New Zealand and Australia for a year under a Fulbright grant, studied their agricultural policy transitions. In addition, Dr. Wallace has consulted in Europe, Africa, and Latin America on agricultural issues and resource development projects.
Dr. Wallace has over 200 articles and pamphlets for academic journals and popular magazines to his credit. He has written a book and is currently working on finishing two others now. He has co-authored four books and contributed chapters to others.
