• The Giannini Fondation sponsored a conference entitled California Agriculture: Dimensions and Issues on May 28, 2004.  For more information on this conference, click here.  
• Dave Sunding co-chaired A Decade of Water Policy Reform: The Central Valley Project improvement Act in 2003 conference in San Francisco on September 12, 2003.  The conference addressed isses faced by policy makers, legislators, attorneys, agency staff, the media, consultants, and business professionals with regard to evolving water law and policy in California and beyond. The keynote speaker was former senator Bill Bradley, who was the co-author of the Central Valley Project Improvement Act.
  
• The Department co-hosted the 2002 World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists in Monterey, California in June. Over 850 presentations were given during the four-day program.
• In a recent article in the journal Science, Matim Qaim and David Zilberman identified twin benefits from bioengineered cotton. These genetically modified seeds both increase yield and reduce pesticide use for rural poor.
