Problem sets 9, 10 and 11 are available. I've updated ps10 ever so slightly from what I sent over email, just clarifying problem 2(iii).
August 15, 2006
Problem sets 7 and 8 are up, as well as a lin alg crib notes. Also note that problem 4 on problem set 6 is no longer required.
August 14, 2006
I posted problem sets 5 and 6. Also don't forget that sections now run 2:30-4 in 2311 Tolman.

I posted a pdf on set algebra, a crib notes of sorts that condenses most everything you might want to know about set theory. I have a few more of these, created, I believe, by Jeff LaFrance, which I will post as the course goes on. Their purpose is not so much for this class as it is for the coming year's coursework, so I would not consider them additional text. Just for your reference.
A note on email:
For incoming ARE students, just a reminder again, make sure to get your ARE email account set up as soon as possible. Important departmental notices will be sent to those addresses through the email caddy (students1), eg orals celebrations. And again, I suggest that you also set up another email account with a webmail client to which you can forward your ARE email, so that you can check email from any computer during the day. There are a number of solutions: you can set up a Calmail (@berkeley) account for free, or use something like yahoo or the like. I recently discovered Gmail to be a fantastic solution, and wish I did from the start. If this is not obvious, here are the steps for setting something like this up:

Classroom Change
I think we've outgrown 201, so we'll be meeting instead downstairs in 141 Giannini. I'll post a note on the door.
Discussion Section
We will discuss this on Monday, but a little heads-up that we'll probably be moving the section up a half-hour, to meet 2:30-4pm. We're going to propose an extra half-hour for a question answering/office hour period.

Enrollment:
The course is geared for entering Agricultural and Resource Economics phd students. Non-ARE students interested in taking ARE classes can enroll with the approval from either myself or a faculty member in the department. Non-ARE students wishing to take Econ 201A/B should consult the Econ dept. for entrance requirements.
Final Exam:
In addition to graded daily assignments, there will be a final exam, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 24th 2:30-4pm.
