This web page contains information pertaining to the empirical projects of second year ARE students.
All students are expected to do their empirical projects during their second year in the program. A waiver for one year may be granted by the GAC under special circumstances. Such a request can be made in writing from the student justifying the reason for the delay and endorsed by his/her tutor.
Administratively, all the students should register for this course in both the spring and fall semesters. You'll receive a satisfactory/unsatisfactory grade in the fall semester, and a letter grade in the spring.
Of great importance is the calendar: we take deadlines very seriously for this course. It would be a very good idea to spend some time this summer thinking about a topic, a dataset, and an advisor.
To get a sense of what constitutes a good research paper, take a look at the criteria we plan to use for grading, or the guidelines we provide for peer review. Also of interest are the guidelines provided for writing a paper in the Thesis Workshop. |
