NOTES FOR THOUGHT
Notes to students
| September 11, 2007: In the next class (September
13), I will deal with the issue of inequality. The literature says that
excessively high inequality is detrimental to both welfare and efficiency.
Be prepared to answer the following question:
“If inequality is so detrimental, what are the mechanisms through which
it is being reproduced over time?”
You should all have a circle of “development friends”, other students in the class. If you have a chance, sit with them and see what your opinions are on the question asked. You can turn in a half page with your answers, or mention them in class when we talk about the subject. |
