November 16

There was a typo in problem set 5. Exercise 3, question e. should start with the words: "Using the model in question d." (not "Using the model in question c."). The corrected version is posted on the Problem Sets page.

          Problem Set 5 is posted and is due on November 24 at the beginning of lecture.

          Problem Set 4 is posted and is due on November 10 at the beginning of lecture. It is quite long, so start early!

          Professor Sadoulet will not have office hours on Friday Oct. 30 and Nov.6. She will instead have extra office hours on Wednesday Nov.4, 4-5pm.

          Stata introduction

There will be three Stata introduction sessions next week: Tuesday 9/8, Wednesday 9/9 and Thursday 9/10, all 4-5pm in 1535 Tolman. Please come to one (and only one) of these sessions. If you can’t make it to any of them, contact Ben to make alternative arrangements.


August 24

Registration
The class is heavily oversubscribed and many students are on the waitlist. All students need to sign up in their assigned section in the week of August 31. Students who do not come to section that week will be automatically dropped from the class. Waitlisted students will be added as slots become available. Priority will be given to graduating seniors.

No section on Wednesday 8/26
Since the first lecture is on Thursday 8/27, there will be no section on Wednesday 8/26. We will make up for the lost time later in the term (date and location T.B.A.).

We will use Introductory Econometrics: A Modern Approach, by Jeffrey M. Wooldridge.>The most recent edition is the 4th, but earlier editions are acceptable substitutes. There will be 4 copies on reserve at Moffitt Library. Reserve call numbers will be posted here when they are available.

Software
Problem sets will require you to use Stata To purchase your own copy of the software for your computer, a single-user one-year license through Berkeley’s GradPlan costs $49 (Small Stata is sufficient for this course). The regular Stata costs $179. Do this as soon as possible as delays occur in delivery at this time of the year. See http://www.stata.com/order/schoollist.html to purchase (select CA, then UCB, then product code ICGP or SMGPA.The current version on sale is Stata 11 but any older version that you may have is fine for the course. Ben will hold two Introduction to Stata sessions, Tuesday 9/8 and Thursday 9/10, both 4-5 pm in 1535 Tolman Hall. Please come to one (and only one) of these sessions – being able to use Stata is crucial in this course!
