Job Descriptions

Written job descriptions are not required by any state or federal rules, but they are helpful in many aspects of farm labor management.  Although they can be of use in defending against charges of wrongful management action, their most important benefits are realized through better management decisions and employer-employee relations.  Carefully prepared descriptions can inform workers as well as managers and supervisors at various levels responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling. The job description is a practical, relatively simple tool that supports personnel management and employee communications every day.
