Free Help for Californiaís Farm Labor Contractors ... At a UC Cooperative Extension Ag Employers Seminar in Five Points, Elizabeth Manzo highlighted Cal/OSHA Consultation Serviceís free telephone, written, and on-site technical services appropriate to farm labor contractors. She emphasized the cooperative assistance program is separate and apart from Cal/OSHAís enforcement branch.

The Cal/OSHA Consultation Service fields professional and experienced personnel to survey work operations and recommend hazard-reduction measures and training programs to reduce business losses from workplace injuries. When appropriate, they will suggest sources for additional help.

Employers are "in control," and can narrow their requests to specific business areas or operations for consideration. Although Cal/OSHA Consultation consultants donít issue fines, there may be rare instances when they are obligated to recommend corrective actions in situations posing an imminent danger to employees.

Farm labor contractors (or their grower/packer customers) may contact Elizabeth Manzo, Cal/OSHA Consultation Training and Education Unit at 2211 Parktown Circle No. 4, Sacramento, CA 95825, or call (916) 574-2528. Request a "Farm Labor Contractors Safety Guide," a bilingual sanitation checklist, and a catalog of the Unitís extensive safety video library.
