SACRAMENTO -- Governor Gray Davis today announced the appointments of Genevieve A. Shiroma, Gloria A. Barrios and Herbert O. Mason as members of the Agricultural Labor Relations Board.

Shiroma, 44, of Sacramento, is currently chief of the air quality measures branch for the Air Resources Board, responsible for air quality regulations related to consumer products and toxic air contaminants. She has been with the Air Resources Board since 1978, where she worked on regulations and programs affecting landfills, hazardous waste, pesticides, air toxic hot spot sources, and requirements for the federally required State Implementation Plan to achieve the ambient air quality standards. Shiroma earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of California at Davis.

Barrios, 48 of Los Angeles, has served as a deputy attorney general for the Office of the Attorney General since 1990. From 1983 to 1990 she served as staff council for the Department of Fair Employment and Housing. She also served as staff council for the Agricultural Labor Relations Board from 1980 to 1983.

Barrios earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California at Irvine and a juris doctor degree from the University of Santa Clara.

Mason, 49, of Fresno, is the director of the Center for Agricultural Business and professor for the department of agricultural economics at California State University at Fresno. He has been involved in agricultural labor matters for more than twenty years, including research, teaching and outreach activities.

Mason earned a bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University and a doctorate degree from the University of California at Davis.

Members will receive a salary of $98,096, reflecting a 5% reduction as requested by the governor. These positions require Senate confirmation.
